Closing in on California

This last section had so. many. baby. frogs. Here’s a video of me trying to not step on the baby frogs that carpeted the trail. Experience the baby frog joy!

I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while now. Day hikers smell so good. Showering once a week has made my nose hypersensitive to clean people. Mmm, Herbal Essences.

The highest point on the OR/WA stretch of the PCT

Water has been getting harder to come by lately in this dry section, which means we’re carrying more water for longer distances. If water is clear, why is it so heavy? Am I the only one who found that funny? Also, massive thanks to the trail angels who are keeping water caches filled and saving our backs.

The grossest water we’ve had to carry so far. It was either this or nothing for 15 miles.
Oregon is a neverending forest fire. 🙁

I’m currently enjoying laying in my first bed in 21 days. We camped just outside of Fish Lake last night, hitched in to Medford this morning, ate Chipotle (oh god, that giant burrito was too much food at once for the 6 snacks a day that my stomach is currently used to) and did some shopping at REI, then caught a bus to a motel in Ashland. Evan’s knee started acting up yesterday and was even worse this morning, so he’s at a clinic getting it checked out. Luckily we were camped very close to the road last night, so we were able to hitch out without much walking. Fingers crossed that he heals up soon and we can get back out on the trail within a few days. But for now, I’m really enjoying eating pizza in bed.

Urban hiking to a taxi in Medford

Once we get back out, we’ll have less than 20 miles to go until we hit the Oregon/California border. California is only 1700 miles long.
