Almost halfwayish
# of days off trail / 2 = # of days it takes to feel like hiking again. After about 4 days of hiking (and after getting out of the oppressive heat), my motivation is back. Which is good, because we’ve still got a looooooong way to go.
The geothermal activity in Lassen was so cool! Boiling lakes, steaming holes in the ground, signs warning us to stay on the trail so we wouldn’t get severely burned. I’d been a bit worried that we’d feel overwhelmed by all the people since we were going through the park over Labor Day weekend, but the trail kept us away from the crowds. We had the cool stuff to ourselves. It was definitely worth detouring off of the PCT to check out Boiling Springs Lake and Terminal Geyser.

We’ll pass the PCT halfway point marker either today or tomorrow. It’ll be the halfwayish point for us since we skipped a chunk of Northern California, but it still feels like a pretty cool milestone.
We survived a 50 mph hitch in the back of a truck this morning. I’m hoping for seats and seatbelts on the hitch back to the trail this afternoon. Fingers crossed.
