Did that really happen?

It’s been nine days since I finished the trail, but it feels like a lifetime ago. Actually, it feels more like my hike was a long, elaborate dream. It feels like it wasn’t real. But the pain in my feet is a reminder that yes, I did actually do that. And, I was right: I just needed a few days of rest to feel like I want to get back out there and hike some more. Unfortunately, my bank account isn’t prepared for another hike just yet.

Since getting off trail, I’ve spent a few days in Virginia Beach with my mom. We drove down to my brother’s house outside of Asheville, which is where I’m at right now. Evan will meet me here in three days and we’ll spend about two weeks camping and hiking our way back to the west coast. The adventure isn’t quite over yet.

I have to say, I’ve very much enjoyed cooking vegetables, regular access to faucets, and not having to pack up my life every morning. This off trail world feels so luxurious.

My next update will be from the road. I’ve still got a little bit of wandering to do.
