Racing south
We spent our time in Wrightwood with a couple of Trail Angels, Patti and Bob. We stayed with them the night before Halloween. Unlike most years when I spend hours putting together a costume, I had absolutely nothing to wear for Halloween on the trail. I asked Patti if there was a store in town that sells masks so I could stop and pick something up before getting back on trail, and she told me to she’d be right back. She ran upstairs to her costume stash and brought me back a pair of cat ears to take with me. After Halloween, they spent a few days adorning the outside of my pack.
On our way to the McDonalds that’s basically on the trail, we came across beer trail magic – a semi-cold beverage that wasn’t water for the first time in a few days! So I trashily drank two Budweisers on the side of the freeway, followed by two McDonald’s egg sandwiches and 3 cookies, followed by a Del Taco California burrito, followed by a Red Bull. I needed the Red Bull to counteract the food so I could keep hiking to our spot for the night. Thank you, Red Bull, for your assistance. Also, I’ll miss being able to eat so much trash food and still lose weight.

Speaking of trash food, here’s a photo of my lunch from yesterday. This is a pretty typical lunch for me.

We passed this nifty monument once we reached the 300 miles to go mark. It’s still hard to believe that we are less than 300 miles from the border. We’ve been racing to the finish line so we can have a day to relax in San Diego before hopping on a plane.

Now for a few random photos…

Ok, back to the race!
