Halfway through Washington
We’ve made it to central Washington, which means we’ve hiked about 290 miles and we don’t have any more crazy 4,000 foot climbs (for now). Yippeeee!! We should be able to pick up some speed since the elevation gains and losses will mellow out. I really want to hit a 30 mile day as soon as my legs will let me. Prior to beginning this adventure, the most I’d ever hiked is 14ish miles, and that was without a backpack. So it’s pretty nifty to see that my body hasn’t totally given out on me when I’m regularly pushing close to 20 miles with lots of elevation AND a pack. Bodies are neat.
I’ve finally gotten my trail name. From now on, you can call me Jukebox. Or Metallica Bird if you’re the hiker who was lucky enough to get stuck behind me on the trail during a particularly heartfelt acapella Metallica session.
I wonder if I’ll ever be able to walk like a normal person again. The hiker shuffle has taken hold of my body. After sitting still for approximately 30 seconds, my muscles stiffen up, then when I attempt to stand up and walk, I look like a 95 year old woman who can’t bend any of her joints anymore. Luckily this passes after a few minutes of shuffling around.

Goodnight folks!
The scenery is absolutely amazing! The mosquito net hats must be a game changer when battling those pesky little insects. Your poor legs and feet. I can only imagine! I know you will soldier on. Good luck achieving your 30 mile goal! You can do it! Happy trails!
Wow………those pictures are gorgeous!! I’m sure every corner you turn presents another spectacular view. And those mosquito nets are quite the fashion statement. So how much longer until your feet/legs/muscles get used to hiking such long distances? Hopefully it won’t last for all 2650 miles!! Maybe a good massage will help when you’re in a town to restock and take a break. I love watching your “tracks” and love when you post pictures. Continue enjoying this adventure!! Love, “Maw”
A tad jelly that you’re seeing so many breathtaking sights that can only be seen from the trail. The shot of Mt. Ranier is amazing! Being the overachiever that you are I’ve got every confidence that you’ll hit 30 miles in no time at all!
