Rain Rain Go Away
Today marks the second day of week three! Time has been flying.
My feet no longer feel like they’re on fire, so that’s good. Lesson learned: not everyone’s body likes zero drop shoes. Luckily I had a pair of Dr. Scholls insoles with me, and within a couple of days of popping them into my shoes, my feet went from fiery inferno pain to normal hiking a lot pain. Win!
We saw our first bear this week. We’d turned a corner and there he was, right in the middle of the trail. He was a little too interested in us. As we talked to him, clapped our poles together, and slowly backed away, he slowly walked towards us, sniffing the air. He didn’t take off until a group of three loud hikers caught up to us. Good thing there were more people so close by to scare the bear off, because I wasn’t interested in getting any closer to him.
We’ve also seen lots of marmots. So. Many. Marmots. I’m loving all of the critters. Especially the hummingbird that was buzzing around above our tent eating all of the gnats that wanted to eat us.

One of my nightly tent tasks is to sort through the day’s photos, and every night I find it hard to believe that I’m the one who was behind the camera (er, phone) for those photos. Even though it has rained almost every day so far, this hike has been jaw droppingly beautiful. And we’ve barely even begun.
Here are a few highlights from this week:

And for good measure, here’s me looking adventurous, then exhausted.

Coming back into town was a weird experience this time. The trail followed the mountainside and once we came around a hill about two miles from town, there was a highway. And buildings. And truck noises. It all seemed gross. But along with town comes pizza. I need to remember that when town seems overwhelming.
Now, if you’ll excuse me while I go eat chips and salsa and watch TV in bed while I have a bed to lay in for the next few hours.
It was so good to see you and Evan yesterday, and to meet my newest niece & nephew Deana and Dane! The light in your eyes & smile on your face was proof that you made the right decision to take on this adventure. Love you, sweetie!
Thank you for all the things! I’m currently working my way through the bread and butter.
Oh Michelle, these pictures are beautiful. And I sure loved being able to talk with you the other night. Hearing the happiness in your voice makes me one happy mom. I’m sure it was great to have Aunt Karen meet you at Stevens Pass. She made sure you guys had a full belly before heading out again. Looking forward to pictures of the next leg of your journey. Love, Maw
